Training
Dr. Egbers is an American Board of Dermatology certified dermatologist and completed an American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) fellowship at Johns Hopkins in Mohs Micrographic Surgery & Cutaneous Oncology.
He received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University, graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering. He completed a dual-degree medical training program at the University of Michigan, where he graduated with his medical degree and a Master of Science degree in clinical research which focused on aging and sun-damaged skin. Dr. Egbers completed his internship at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan, and then returned to the University of Michigan for his dermatology residency and to continue his clinical research.
Following residency, he completed a 1-year fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery & Cutaneous Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University. During this fellowship, he honed his skills in all things skin-cancer including detection, management, removal, and complex reconstructions of the face and all over the body. Cosmetic procedure training as part of this fellowship augmented his ability to manage scars and wound healing.
Practice
Following training, he became full-time faculty at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Cutaneous Surgery & Oncology Unit of the Department of Dermatology. Dr. Egbers served as clinical co-director of the Johns Hopkins Multidisciplinary Tumor Board, where some the most challenging cases of skin cancer were reviewed. Before leaving for Upstate New York to start Anew Dermatology, he served as the Director of the Cutaneous Surgery & Oncology Unit for 2016-2017.
With Anew Dermatology, Dr. Egbers provides specialty surgical services including Mohs surgery and reconstruction to patients diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, and rarer tumors such as dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, sebaceous carcinoma and others. He also treats rashes, provides skin checks, and performs a full-range of dermatologic care for patients who are not diagnosed with skin cancer.
At the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, in the Department of Dermatology, he continues to train residents in cutaneous surgery and provide patient care on a limited basis. His research and clinical focus is on the treatment of common and rare skin cancers, melanoma, complicated skin cancers, and Mohs surgery and reconstruction. He also works with residents from UHS at Anew Dermatology, training them on cutaneous surgery and cutaneous oncology.
He has received numerous honors and awards including Top Doctor, Baltimore Magazine 2017. He is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American College of Mobs Surgeons.
